MS English Skills
English Skills classes will focus on developing specific language skills needed to write and communicate with clarity. These skills include a close examination of phrases, clauses, sentences, and their parts as well as figurative language, punctuation, capitalization, and word parts (prefixes, suffixes, and roots). Students will then practice and demonstrate the application of their language skills through various writing assignments.

MS English Applications
The English Application courses focus heavily on reading comprehension and developing advanced writing skills. Students will complete 4 units in Pearson's MyPerspectives textbook. Each unit is designed around an essential question and sequenced to help students move from whole-class instruction to independent learning tasks. Along the way, students will read, analyze, and respond to a variety of texts in a variety of written and visual formats.

Media Literacy

Media Literacy students will critically engage with the vast amount of information they encounter in today’s digital world. Through the study of news, advertising, social media, film, and emerging technologies, students will learn how media messages are created, how they influence audiences, and how they shape culture and society. This class emphasizes developing critical thinking skills, fact-checking, identifying bias, and recognizing persuasive techniques while also fostering responsible citizenship. By the end of the year, students will be able to navigate media thoughtfully and safely as well as create and share their own media with integrity and purpose.

High School Applied English
