I hope this is a positive experience for you to learn about healthcare professions and your body. This is the first class that leads into the health profession pathways. These pathways will help you get employment after high school and/ or help you continue to a higher degree in a healthcare field.  This school  offers the Medical Assisting pathway.

Course Description: This course is designed to prepare students for healthcare careers by covering academic, professional, and soft skills, alongside practical procedures. The curriculum encompasses medical math, communication, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, safety, infection control, and first aid. Additionally, it incorporates career exploration features, real-life scenarios making it a well-rounded guide for aspiring healthcare professionals.

Students will utilize Chromebooks in the classroom to access Health Science: Concepts and Skills 2e, Online Textbook. Students may occasionally need access to the text at home. Chromebooks may be checked out on a daily basis. Please see me if you wish to check out a Chromebook.

Phone Policy: Per school policy, I expect phones, headphones, and other electronic devices to be in your backpack or on the back counter while in the classroom. If you are caught with your phone/device, you will be asked to put it away. The second time you will be asked to put your phone on the counter, the third time your phone/device will be confiscated by the teacher and taken to the office until the end of the school day.

Attendance / Tardies: You are expected to be standing respectfully next to the library windows before the bell rings. Tardiness will not be tolerated and will follow the guidelines in the Student Handbook. Since this is a class that discusses and promotes professional behavior: attendance, punctuality, dress code, work ethic, and behavior are all included in your grade.

Behavior: I expect professional behavior, no swearing, rude or crude comments are allowed. Treat everyone with respect. If caught cheating on an assessment, you will receive an “F” on that assessment and will not be allowed to retake.

Grading: I will use PowerSchool for assignments and Grades

You are graded on a traditional scale A=90-100%, B=80-89%, C= 70-79%, D= 60-69%, F = less than 60%.

Tests = 30%  of the grade

Quizzes = 20% of the grade

Presentations/ Projects = 20% of the grade

Daily Assignments & Professionalism = 30% of the grade

Late Work: Accepted only upon approval or excused absence. Work must be submitted within one week of the original due date.

Testing: Retakes are allowed, but your worksheets and notes for that unit must be completed before the retake. You have 1 week from the original test date to retake a  test. Avoid doing retakes during class time.  We have a rigorous schedule and you risk missing current lectures and content.

Supplies: Please bring 2 pencils with you to class. You will be provided  a single subject  notebook for notes and diagrams. It is recommended that you have a separate folder or a designated tab in a 3-ring- binder to hold worksheets. You will receive points for completing this notebook and you will be able to use this notebook on your semester finals.
