Character Education 7 (2nd Semester)

Updated (1/16/22)

Course Description for Character Education 7th Grade:

First, I am excited to announce that we will be using the guide book Teens Can Make It Happen: Nine Steps to Success for this class! It is engaging for students, something that they can connect well with, and something students can learn a great deal from. For example, there is a section where students come up with solutions on how to turn obstacles into opportunities. A big portion of this class will be a book study that includes the following contents:

The Success Process

Check Your ID (Get to Know Yourself Better)

Create Your Vision

Develop Your Travel Plan

Master the Rules of the Road

Step Into the Outer Limits

Pilot the Seasons of Change

Build Your Dream Team

Win by a Decision

Commit to Your Vision

In addition, students will be involved in other social emotional learning through the use of BrainPop (movies, activities and quizzes). There are many topics to choose from, but to give you an idea some might include cyberbullying, online safety, and managing stress.

Material Expectations:

Students are expected to have a school provided 3-ring binder (1 inch - not bulky & not fancy) that is just for Character Education class to keep all of their papers in. They should always be prepared with two or more pencils (mechanical would be best; the school provides some of these). In addition, students should always bring work to do for other classes, AND/OR they should have an AR book with them so they can engage in AR when they are finished with their “regular work.”

Main Resource Used For Class:

Teens Can Make It Happen: Nine Steps to Success - guidebook used for our book study

These books were bought for us by hard working folks using taxpayer money. Let’s show respect and gratitude by taking great care of them! :) At the end of the semester, students will be allowed to take them home and keep them to refer to.

BrainPop- which is mainly educational, animated, short movies

Homework:

Students will need to do homework if they need more time in order to keep up in class. Everyone reads and completes tasks at their own rate, so some will definitely need to do homework at home. Students may also need to study for tests at home. Students will be expected to meet deadlines and to be responsible.

Grading:

Grades are not weighted. A point system is used. Activities/assignments are assigned points based on the rigor of the task.
